The Nutcracker Auditions
Every fall, Victoria Ballet Theatre holds open community auditions for The Nutcracker. We cast children and adults for party scene guests, soldiers, mice, angels, and other character roles.
Many roles do not require prior dance training. This is a wonderful way for anyone in Victoria and surrounding areas to be part of our most beloved holiday production.

How It Works
Register
Check this page for the announced audition date. Walk-in registration is available on audition day.
Audition
Arrive in comfortable clothing. The audition is a short, guided movement session. No solo performance is required.
Casting
You will be notified of your role and rehearsal schedule shortly after the artistic team reviews the auditions.
Perform
Rehearse on weekends leading up to the magical December performances at the Welder Center.
Join Victoria Ballet Theatre
Each spring, Victoria Ballet Theatre holds open auditions for its pre-professional company. Over forty dancers ages ten and up are selected through a competitive process to train with nationally recognized choreographers and perform three to four productions annually at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.
Audition Details
- Date: April 24, 2026
- Location: 204 N. Main Street, Victoria, TX
- Registration: Begins at 4:30 PM
- Class: Begins at 5:00 PM
Requirements
- Age: Dancers must be 10 years of age by September 1, 2026.
- Attire (Females): Black leotard, pink tights, and pink ballet shoes. Bring pointe shoes if appropriate.
- Attire (Males): Black tights, white t-shirt, and black ballet shoes.
- What to Expect: A ballet class led by VBT's artistic staff. No required solo.
The VBT Experience
Professional Training
Company members work with guest choreographers and instructors from companies including Houston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Bruce Wood Dance.
Performance Opportunities
Dancers perform in three to four productions each season at the Welder Center, including The Nutcracker and original contemporary works.
A Pathway Forward
VBT alumni have gone on to train at Houston Ballet, ABT, Boston Ballet, Alvin Ailey, and top university dance programs across the country.
